How many mm is the strap your watch needs?

The width of a watch strap is the inner distance between the two lugs of the case, in millimetres. You can measure it with a ruler, or check the back of the old strap, where the number (e.g. 18, 20, 22) is often printed. The most common women's size is 14–18 mm, and men's is 20–22 mm. In the filter by width you immediately see only the straps that fit.

Leather, silicone, metal or NATO strap?

  • Leather watch strap: elegant, but it does not like water. Hirsch straps (e.g. Duke, Osiris Nubuk, Crocograin) are one of the well-known names in quality leather straps; the brand has existed in Austria since 1765.
  • Silicone, rubber: for sport, swimming and summer wear; easy to clean.
  • Metal watch strap: durable, good with a suit and for everyday wear, and its length can be adjusted by removing links.
  • NATO strap: textile, it runs under the case, can be changed quickly and has a sporty look.

The widest selection comes from Rochet watch straps: Neptune, New York, Charleston and other series, in black and brown shades. The French brand Rochet, active since 1908, makes straps with good value for money for everyday wear.

Changing a watch strap: how does it go?

Changing a plain spring-bar strap takes a few minutes at home with a strap-changing tool or a thin screwdriver. For an original strap with fixed ends (e.g. Tissot, Casio), order the exact piece by model number; you can also look for these among the Tissot straps. If you are not sure about the size or the type, send us the model number of your watch and we will tell you which strap fits.

Watch straps – the most common questions

How do I find out how many mm of strap I need?

Measure the inner distance between the two lugs of the case in millimetres; this is the width of the strap. The number is often printed on the back of the old strap too.

What determines the price of a watch strap?

The material and the manufacturer: simple silicone and faux leather straps are the entry level, while original branded bands and premium Hirsch leather straps belong to the higher price range. You can see the exact price on the product page.

Can I change the watch strap myself?

With a spring-bar strap, yes, it takes a few minutes with a strap-changing tool. For shortening a metal bracelet or for an original strap with fixed ends, our own watch service can help.

Can you swim with a leather watch strap?

We do not recommend it, because leather hardens, cracks and smells after contact with water. For swimming, choose a silicone, rubber or NATO strap.

What is a NATO strap?

A NATO strap is a one-piece textile watch strap that is threaded under the case through the lugs. It can be changed quickly, it is light, and if a spring bar ever let go, the watch would still stay on your wrist.
