Which men's solar watch should you choose?
- Casio G-Shock and Pro Trek – shock-resistant, for rough terrain and work; the Wave Ceptor models set themselves from a radio signal.
- Casio Edifice – a sporty chronograph that you can wear with a suit too.
- Citizen Promaster Sky, Chrono, Titanium – pilot and sports watches with an Eco-Drive movement; a titanium case is lighter than steel.
- Seiko Astron – sets itself from satellite signals.
What can a GPS solar watch do?
Seiko introduced the Astron GPS Solar in 2012, the world's first GPS solar watch: it sets the exact time and the time zone from satellite signals, and gets its energy from light. If you travel a lot, you don't have to change it by hand after landing.
How water resistant is a men's solar watch?
Men's solar models are almost all at least 10 ATM, meaning you can swim with them, and many are 20 ATM, which is suitable for diving too. Ordinary daylight is enough for charging; you don't need to put it in direct sun. The men's watches by movement page shows the other movements.
If the watch stays in a drawer for a longer time, put it on a windowsill before you wear it again – after a few hours of light it runs at full strength. If it does run down, our own watch service also checks the condition of the rechargeable cell.
Solar men's watches: what most people want to know
Which is the best men's solar watch?
There is no single best one; it depends on how you use it. For rough terrain a G-Shock or Pro Trek, for the office a Citizen Eco-Drive, and for lots of travel the GPS Seiko Astron is the right choice.
What is the difference between Casio and Citizen solar watches?
Both charge their rechargeable cell from light, and the difference is more in style. Casio's solar models are mainly tough digital and ana-digi watches, while the Citizen Eco-Drive is more of a classic analog.
What is the Seiko Astron?
Seiko's GPS solar watch, which sets the time and the time zone from satellite signals. The first Astron GPS Solar appeared in 2012.
Do you ever need to change the battery in a solar watch?
A conventional battery change isn't needed, because light charges the built-in rechargeable cell. It lasts for many years, and if it ever needs replacing, our own watch service helps with that too.
