Which movement should your men's analog watch have?

Analog only means that hands show the time – the movement can still be very different.

  • Quartz: battery-powered, accurate, maintenance-free; this is where the range is widest.
  • Automatic: wound by the motion of your wrist, no battery needed; from entry-level Japanese models to Swiss pieces, there are plenty to choose from.
  • Solar: charged by light, for example the solar models from Citizen and Seiko.
  • Hand-wound: you wind it every day; rare, but for lovers of mechanics it is the finest experience.

A sporty or an elegant analog watch?

Most of the range is sporty: Casio Edifice chronographs, Seiko 5 Sports, Longines HydroConquest dive watches, TAG Heuer Formula 1 and Carrera. If you are looking for something to wear with a suit, check out the Citizen Elegance Man or the Baume & Mercier models – a slimmer case, a clean dial, a leather strap.

What should you check before ordering online?

The case size: 38–42 mm suits most wrists, and above 44 mm it becomes very prominent. It is worth measuring the diameter of your current watch and comparing against it. Then the water resistance: if you swim you need at least 10 ATM, and for diving 20 ATM. Finally, the legibility of the dial in poor light – this is where many chronographs fail, so check the product photos for luminous coating on the hands.

You can see digital and other movements on the men's watches by movement page. If you are torn between two candidates, write to us and we will help you compare them by size, weight and features.

Men's analog watches – frequently asked questions

How big should a men's analog watch be?

A 38–42 mm case suits most men's wrists, and above 44 mm the watch becomes very prominent. For a slimmer wrist, the classic 36–40 mm size is recommended.

Should I buy an automatic or a quartz men's watch?

If accuracy and convenience matter, choose quartz; if you value the experience of mechanics and running without a battery, choose an automatic. An automatic watch can be off by a few seconds a day, while quartz is far more accurate.

What does the price of a men's analog watch depend on?

Mainly on the brand, the movement and the materials. Simple quartz models are the entry level, while Swiss automatics with sapphire crystal and higher water resistance are in the upper price range. Our most popular sporty chronograph series is the Casio Edifice, with very good value for money.

Does the warranty apply to men's analog watches?

Yes, we sell every brand as an official dealer, so the watches come with the manufacturer warranty, and our own watch service helps with servicing.
