Where does Fossil come from?
Fossil was founded in 1984 by Tom Kartsotis in Texas, near Dallas; the company is headquartered in Richardson today. It started out importing affordable fashion watches, and by now the Fossil Group is one of the world's largest fashion-watch groups, also producing licensed watches for several well-known fashion brands. Fossil's own watches have a slightly vintage, American feel: leather straps, visible screws and chronograph dials.
Which Fossil series should you choose?
On the women's side, the Carlie and the Raquel are the two strongest series, alongside the Scarlette, Jacqueline and Gilmore models. For men, the Machine and the Carraway lead, followed by the Neutra (in both chronograph and minimalist versions), the Everett and the Townsman.

What determines the price of a Fossil watch, and what do you get for it?
The entry level is the quartz men's models on a leather strap, the women's watches and chronographs are the middle of the range, and the automatic and solar pieces are at the top. A Fossil is a fashion watch: the point is not the mechanism but the design and wearability. The quartz movement is accurate and needs only a battery change – our own watch service takes care of that.
How water resistant is a Fossil?
Most Fossil watches are rated to 5 atm, which copes with a shower and a little splashing, but swimming is not recommended. Some models are rated to 10 atm – if you want to take the watch into the pool, choose from these; the water resistance is always shown on the product page. The few 3 atm pieces are splash-proof only.
