How long has TAG Heuer existed, and who owns it today?

TAG Heuer is a Swiss watch brand founded in 1860: Edouard Heuer started it in Saint-Imier, its headquarters are now in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and since 1999 it has belonged to the LVMH group. Sports timing is the backbone of the brand – the 1916 Mikrograph was the first stopwatch to measure hundredths of a second. The TAG acronym (Techniques d'Avant Garde) was added in front of the Heuer name in 1985.

Which TAG Heuer series is for whom?

TAG Heuer Carrera – typically automatic; more of an elegant face that holds its own in the office and at the weekend.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer – dive watches with 200–300 metres of water resistance, in men's and women's sizes, also available in a solar version.
Formula 1 – the sportiest and most affordable way into the brand, mostly with a quartz movement.
Monaco – the square case that appeared in 1969 with the Calibre 11 automatic chronograph and that Steve McQueen wore in the film Le Mans (1971).
Link – recognisable by its flexible metal bracelet of S-shaped links, and strong in women's models too.

Automatic, quartz or solar TAG Heuer?

The backbone of the range is automatics, with quartz and solar models alongside. Our rule of thumb: if you wear it every day and love mechanics, go automatic; if it will rest in a drawer for days, choose quartz or Solar, because those will not stop. Water resistance is no problem either: the Carrera and Formula 1 models are typically 10 ATM, and the Aquaracer is at least 20 ATM, so it is good for diving too.
