What is worth knowing about Seiko?

Seiko is a Japanese watch brand founded in 1881: Kintaro Hattori started it in Tokyo's Ginza district, and today it is part of the Seiko Group. The brand introduced several technologies of its own. In 1988 it presented the Kinetic movement, which generates power for the quartz movement from the motion of your arm, and in 1999 the Spring Drive, which runs on spring power, is regulated electronically and can reach accuracy of about one second a day.

Seiko automatic, solar or quartz?

If you wear it every day and love mechanics, automatic is the way to go – these form the backbone of the Seiko range. If your watch sometimes rests for days, solar or Kinetic is more convenient, because there are no battery changes to arrange. Classic quartz is the most affordable and the most accurate, and asks for a new battery every few years.

How to choose a Seiko watch online

Check three things on the product page: the case diameter (compare it with a watch you already own), the water resistance (at least 10 ATM for swimming) and the type of movement. If you are torn between two series, write to us and we will tell you how they differ on the wrist – a 5 Sports and a Presage, for example, wear quite differently. Seiko watches rated at least 10 ATM are suitable for swimming, and the 20–30 ATM Prospex models for diving. Do not go into the water with the 5 ATM Presage and Classic pieces.

What do Seiko Kinetic and Seiko Solar mean?

Seiko Kinetic charges the watch from the motion of your arm, Seiko Solar from light. Neither needs regular battery changes.
