Watch Straps by Width – From 10 to 26 mm, Sized to Fit
The width of a watch strap is the inner distance between the two lugs of the case, and it decides what fits your watch. Here you can browse by millimetre in a wide selection, mainly from Rochet, Hirsch and Tissot, from narrow women's sizes to straps for large sports watches. If you do not know your size, below we explain how to measure it at home in a few minutes, and if you need the strap changed, our own watch service will do it.
How to measure what size watch strap you need
Use a caliper or a ruler to measure the inner distance between the lugs, at the point where the strap attaches to the case. Do not measure the buckle end of the strap, as it is often narrower. Even half a millimetre matters: a narrower strap will be loose and a wider one will not fit. On many straps the factory size is also marked on the inside.
Which strap widths are the most common?
- 20 mm watch straps and 22 mm watch straps: most men's watches, and the widest choice is in these sizes.
- 18 mm watch straps: smaller men's and larger women's watches, in leather, metal and silicone.
- 12, 14 and 16 mm: the typical women's sizes.
- 24 mm and 26 mm: large-case sports watches and smartwatches.
In the rarer sizes, such as 10 mm, 19 mm or 21 mm, the selection is narrower, and we are happy to bring them in to order.
Once you have the size, pick the material
Leather, silicone, metal or fabric: you can choose on the main watch straps page. If your measurement falls between two sizes, say between 19 and 20 mm, do not force the wider one. Measure again and check the marking on the old strap, because odd sizes are more common than you would think.
Watch strap width – the most common questions
How do I know what size watch strap I need?
The width of a watch strap is the inner distance between the two lugs of the case, in millimetres. Measure it with a caliper, or look for the number on the inside of your old strap.
What is the difference between an 18 mm and a 20 mm watch strap?
An 18 mm strap typically suits smaller men's and larger women's watches, while 20 mm suits mid-sized men's watches. The two are not interchangeable, because a 2 mm difference is visible and leaves the strap loose.
What is the most common men's watch strap width?
The most common men's watch strap widths are 20 and 22 mm. These sizes have the widest selection in leather, metal, silicone and fabric straps.
What should I do if my old strap has no size marking?
Measure the inner distance between the lugs with a caliper or a millimetre ruler, at the point where the strap attaches. If the measurement is unclear, send us your watch model and we will help you identify the size.
