What makes a women's quartz watch great for everyday wear?

In a quartz movement, the battery makes a tiny quartz crystal vibrate, and that vibration sets the beat – which is why it is more accurate than any mechanical watch. The movement is small and light, so it fits into a thin case, which matters a lot on a women's watch: that is exactly why the Bering Classic or the Cluse Gracieuse Petite sits so flat on the wrist.

How much water resistance does a women's watch need?

  • 3 atm – splash resistant: handwashing and rain are fine, a shower is not. A significant share of women's quartz watches are like this.
  • 5 atm – strongly splash resistant, a calmer choice for everyday wear if you wash your hands a lot or garden.
  • 10 atm or more – suitable for swimming too; the G-Shock women's models and some of the sportier Tissot pieces are like this.

Which brand should you look at first?

If you want a clean, slim watch, the Danish Bering Classic is one of the most popular choices. For something more colorful and fashionable, Cluse, Ice Watch or Tommy Hilfiger are the way to go, and for a once-in-a-lifetime gift, Longines or Baume & Mercier. You can see all the movement types side by side on the women's watches by movement page.

Warranty and battery change

As an official dealer, we sell every women's quartz watch with the manufacturer warranty. If the battery runs out in a few years, our own watch service handles the replacement, and on a water-resistant watch we check the seal too.

Questions we hear most about women's quartz watches

How often does the battery need changing in a women's quartz watch?

Typically every few years, and the exact time depends on the movement and the battery type. A simple three-hand watch lasts longer on one battery than a multi-function digital model.

Should I buy a quartz or an automatic women's watch?

If you want an accurate, slim, maintenance-free watch, go for quartz. An automatic runs without a battery, but it is thicker, more expensive, and stops if you do not wear it.

What determines the price of a women's quartz watch?

The brand, the case and strap material, the crystal type and the water resistance. Bering, Casio and Cluse models are in the good-value range, while the Swiss Longines and Baume & Mercier pieces represent the higher price tiers.

Does a watch lose its water resistance after a battery change?

Not if it is closed back up properly. On a water-resistant watch the seal has to be checked during a battery change, and our own watch service does this every time.
