Kids' Watches – a First Watch for School, for Girls and Boys
There is a wide choice of kids' watches: Tiko Time, Ice Watch, Lorus, Flik Flak and Daniel Klein models, at friendly prices. All are battery powered, so they never need winding. We are an official dealer of every brand, the watches arrive with a manufacturer warranty, and if the battery ever runs out or the strap breaks, we replace it in our own service.
From what age should a child get a watch?
The time for a first watch comes when a child starts learning to tell the time – for many that is around the start of school. For learning, we suggest a bright, easy-to-read dial full of numbers; the Ice Watch Learning models carry that purpose right in their name. A digital watch is easier to read, but on an analogue one a child understands better just what a "quarter" is.
What to look for when buying a kids' watch
- A light, soft strap: silicone or textile that does not press on the wrist and is washable.
- Water resistance: if your child will take it to the pool or to training, choose a 10 atm watch – we have collected these separately.
- Motif: Tiko Time watches come with dinosaurs, kittens, race cars and even motocross bikes – a favourite pattern is the best guarantee that it will actually be worn.
Girls', boys', digital or water-resistant?
You will find the right one faster if you filter right away: between girls' watches and boys' watches you can choose by colour and pattern, digital kids' watches are for older children, and water-resistant kids' watches for sporty kids. Lorus is the affordable sister brand that Seiko introduced in Europe in 1982, and Ice Watch started in Belgium in 2007 with colourful watches.
When shopping online it is worth involving your child: show them the pictures and let them pick the pattern – and for size, compare the strap length given on the product page with the circumference of their wrist.
Kids' watches – what parents usually ask
From what age is a kids' watch suitable?
It is usually worth buying a kids' watch when the child starts learning to tell the time, which for many is around the start of school. For younger children, a simple analogue dial with big numbers is best.
What kids' watch should I buy if they will swim in it?
For swimming, choose a kids' watch with at least 10 atm water resistance. We have collected these separately among the water-resistant kids' watches, from several brands.
Is it worth buying an expensive kids' watch?
Not for a first one: kids lose, drop and outgrow things anyway. An affordable, tough, easy-to-read watch is plenty for starting school, and a more serious piece can come later.
What is the difference between boys' and girls' watches?
Between boys' and girls' kids' watches the difference is mainly colour and pattern; the movement is the same. Many models are unisex, so a child can happily choose from the other category too.
Who replaces the battery in a kids' watch?
We replace the battery of a kids' watch in our own service, and you can also send the watch to us by post. If a strap breaks, we help with a replacement as well.
