What kind of brand is Orient?

Orient is a Japanese watch brand: it started in Tokyo in 1950 as Tama Keiki, became Orient Watch Co. a year later, and its roots go back to a watchmaking workshop in Ueno in 1901. It has belonged to Seiko Epson since 2009 and was merged into Epson in 2017. It is known for offering in-house mechanical movements at a price level where other brands typically give you only a quartz watch – the movements are made at Epson's plant in Akita.

Which Orient line is right for whom?

  • Orient Mako – a 200-metre dive watch, available in automatic and solar versions; the brand's best-known and most popular line.
  • Orient Kamasu – the more serious member of the Mako family, with a sapphire crystal, also water resistant to 200 metres.
  • Orient Bambino – a clean automatic dress watch made for a suit, available with a 36 mm or 38 mm case.
  • Orient Classic – home to the Sun and Moon, the Symphony and the Stretto Date; the brand's entry-level models are in this line as well.

Models from the Ray Diver, Triton and Contemporary lines are part of our range too, and we can order the Golden Eye on request.

What determines the price of an Orient watch?

The entry level is made up of the quartz Classic models, with the automatics starting above that. The Bambino and the Mako sit in the middle of the brand's range, while the upper end is represented by sapphire-crystal pieces with special dials. So the price depends mainly on the movement (quartz, automatic, solar), the crystal and the finishing of the case. Our usual advice: if this is your first automatic, a Bambino or a Mako is a good start, because you won't outgrow it later.

Looking for a men's or a women's Orient?

The range is strongly masculine and most models are men's watches – we have collected them on the Orient men's watches page. For women, the smaller 36 mm Bambino and a few Classic models are worth a look; you will find them among the Orient women's watches.

How to choose an Orient watch online

Measure your wrist and check the case diameter on the product page: for wrists under 17 cm, models of 36–40 mm work best, while above that the 41–42 mm Mako and Kamasu sit well too. If you are weighing a dive watch against a dress watch, think about what you would wear it for most – the Mako is for everyday, the Bambino for a shirt and jacket. Every Orient watch comes with the manufacturer warranty, and warranty matters and later servicing are handled by our own watch service.

What people ask most about Orient watches

What kind of brand is Orient?

Orient is a Japanese watch brand founded in Tokyo in 1950 and now part of Seiko Epson. It is known above all for affordable mechanical watches with in-house automatic movements.

What determines the price of an Orient watch?

Mainly the movement: quartz Classic models are the entry level, while automatics and solar versions start higher. Sapphire crystal, a special dial and the finishing of the case push the price up further.

Is Orient a good watch?

Yes, Orient is one of the best-value Japanese automatic brands. The movements are not bought in but made in Epson's own plant, which makes this level of craftsmanship rare in the category.

Which Orient should I buy first?

For an everyday sports watch the Mako is the safest choice, and for a shirt and jacket the Bambino. If you are unsure, the 40 mm Mako fits most wrists well.

Is Orient part of Seiko?

Indirectly, yes: Orient has belonged to Seiko Epson since 2009 and has been integrated into Epson since 2017. The brand and its range have stayed independent regardless.

Does an Orient watch ordered online come with a warranty?

Yes, as an official Orient dealer we deliver every watch to your door with the genuine manufacturer warranty. Warranty handling and later servicing are done by our own watch service.
