Women's Mechanical Watches – Automatics from Orient Bambino to Carrera
Running without a battery, women's mechanical watches: the range consists of automatic models, which means the movement of your wrist winds them. You can choose from Longines Conquest, TAG Heuer Carrera and Aquaracer, Seiko Presage, Rado, Mido and Tissot. We are an official dealer for these brands: we deliver the watch to your door with the manufacturer warranty, and if it ever needs maintenance, you can leave that to us too.
Why are women's mechanical watches less common?
A spring-driven movement needs more room, so women's automatics are usually a little thicker than a quartz fashion watch. For this reason manufacturers make fewer women's models – most of the mechanical offering on the market is men's watches. In return, an automatic is "alive": if it has a glass case back, you can see the winding rotor spin.
Which women's automatic watch should you choose?
- Longines Conquest and Master Collection – Swiss classics, the most sought-after of the women's automatics.
- TAG Heuer Carrera and Aquaracer – a sportier line; the Aquaracer was designed as a dive watch.
- Seiko Presage Cocktail and Frozen – distinctive, patterned dials with a Japanese automatic movement.
- Orient Bambino 36 – an affordable, clean dress watch with Seiko Epson's own movement.
How to treat a women's automatic watch
If you wear it every day, it keeps itself running; if it rests for a few days, it may stop – in that case set it and turn the crown a few times. The Tissot Ballade Powermatic 80 movement, with its 80-hour reserve, helps here too: take it off on Friday evening, and it is still running on Monday morning. Keep it away from magnets, such as the magnetic clasp of a handbag. You can browse the other movements in the women's watches by movement overview.
Warranty and maintenance
An automatic watch serves for decades if it is inspected and oiled every few years. As an official dealer, we sell the watch with the manufacturer warranty, and maintenance is carried out by our own watch service.
What to know about women's automatic watches
What is the difference between an automatic and a hand-wound women's watch?
An automatic is wound by the movement of your wrist through a rotating weight, while a hand-wound watch has to be wound regularly with the crown. On women's watches the automatic is the more typical; hand-wound models are rarely made.
What determines the price of a women's mechanical watch?
Mainly the movement and the brand. The Japanese Orient and Seiko models are the entry level, while the Swiss TAG Heuer and Rado pieces are in the higher price tiers.
Does a women's automatic watch stop if I do not wear it?
Yes, it usually stops after a day or two, because the spring reserve runs out. After a few turns of the crown and setting the time it runs again, and it will come to no harm.
How often does an automatic watch need servicing?
An inspection is generally recommended every few years, and the exact interval is set by the manufacturer. Our own watch service is also at your disposal for this.
