Orient Mako – 200 m Dive Watches, Automatic and Solar
The Orient Mako dive watch is one of the most sought-after Orient models, and in our range you can choose from several generations. You will find the Mako III, the Mako IV, the smaller Mako 40 and the solar Mako Solar – every one water resistant to 200 metres. We are an official Orient dealer, the watches come to your door with the manufacturer warranty, and our own watch service helps with adjusting the strap or the metal clasp.
Mako III, Mako IV or Mako 40 – which should you choose?
The generation is clear from the Mako name: the Mako III and Mako IV are the classic, larger-cased dive watches, while the Mako 40 is the smaller, 40 mm version – start with it if you have a slimmer wrist or want to slide it under a shirt cuff. The larger Mako III and IV are sportier, better suited to weekends and summer.
Automatic or solar Mako?
Most Makos are automatic: the movement of your arm winds them, no battery is needed, but if you leave it off for days it will stop and need resetting. The Mako Solar charges from light, so it keeps running even in a drawer – good for someone who rotates several watches and doesn't want to set the time every morning.
What does 200 metres of water resistance mean in practice?
- Swimming, the beach and snorkelling are no problem.
- It is designed for diving too, and the rotating bezel is there to track dive time.
- Seals age over time: if you spend a lot of time in the water, have the water resistance checked every year – our own watch service does that.
How to choose a Mako online
Measure your wrist circumference: under 17 cm the Mako 40 looks proportionate, above that the Mako III and IV look good too. On the product page, check the thickness as well as the case diameter, because a dive watch is chunkier than a dress watch. The links of the metal-clasp version can be removed afterwards, and the rubber strap is adjustable via its holes.
If a dive watch is not your only option, look around among the other Orient watches or on the Orient men's watches page.
Orient Mako – frequently asked questions
What determines the price of an Orient Mako?
Primarily the generation and the movement: the Mako Solar and Mako IV models are in the higher price range of the series, while the Mako III and Mako 40 start lower. There can also be a difference between the metal clasp and rubber strap versions.
How big is the Orient Mako 40?
The Orient Mako 40 has a 40 mm case, so it suits smaller wrists well. You will find it in our range in several dial colours.
Can I swim with the Orient Mako?
Yes, every Orient Mako is rated 20 atm, i.e. water resistant to 200 metres, so it is suitable for swimming and diving. Always keep the crown screwed down in the water.
What is the difference between the Mako II and the Mako III?
They are successive generations of the Mako, with different case and dial designs. We suggest comparing them in the product photos, because the difference is in the details.
