Silicone and Rubber Watch Straps – For Water, Workouts and Summer
Looking for a silicone or rubber watch strap for swimming, running or summer? You can choose from a wide selection, from budget-friendly silicone straps to original branded rubber bands. A large part of the range is original Casio replacement bands, and the rest is Rochet, Hirsch and Tissot, including an integrated strap that fits the PRX 40. Order online and have it delivered, and if you need help with the swap, our own watch service will do it.
What is the difference between a silicone and a rubber watch strap?
Both are flexible and cope with water. Silicone is softer and cheaper, a good everyday and beach strap. Rubber (natural or synthetic) is denser, holds its shape better and attracts less dust, so we tend to recommend it for pricier watches and dive watches. Hirsch's Arne, James, Pure and Stone models belong to this higher range.
Original Casio strap or a universal one?
On most Casio and G-Shock watches the band is moulded to the case with its own shape, so an original replacement band is the right answer: it fits exactly and leaves no gap beside the case. If you know the model number (it is on the case back), look it up in advance or send it to us and we will find the matching band. For watches with conventional straight lugs, though, you can happily choose a Rochet Birdy in white, red or navy.
How to clean a rubber strap
- After sea water and chlorinated water, rinse it with lukewarm tap water.
- Keep white and light straps away from denim and sunscreen, as they can pick up the colour.
- If it turns sticky or starts to crack, it is time to replace it.
Looking for leather or metal instead? You will find them all on the watch straps by material page. With a rubber strap, look at the thickness as well as the lug width: a thick rubber band can bind at the spring bar on a watch with narrow lugs.
Frequently asked questions: silicone and rubber straps
Which is the best watch strap for swimming?
For swimming, a silicone or rubber strap is best, because it does not absorb water and dries quickly. Leather is ruined, and metal is heavier and rides up the wrist in the water.
Do you have original Casio silicone straps?
Yes, the rubber straps include many original Casio bands. It is best to pick the exact type using the model number on the case back.
Do I need a silicone or a rubber strap for my dive watch?
For a dive watch we recommend rubber: it is denser, holds its shape better and keeps a heavier case stable on the wrist. Silicone is lighter and ideal for everyday and beach wear.
Why does my rubber strap get sticky or turn white?
The stickiness and the white deposit are mostly a sign of the material ageing, sped up by sunlight, salt and sunscreen. Cleaning cannot do much at that point, so it is worth replacing the strap.
