Link bracelet or Milanese metal strap?
- Link bracelet: made of elements joined with pins, it is solid and suits both sports and classic watches. The Rochet Ocean, Astern and Seastar belong to this type.
- Milanese strap: a finely woven metal mesh, thinner and lighter, usually adjusted with a sliding clasp instead of a buckle. It looks good on slim, flat watches.
How can a metal watch strap be adjusted to your wrist?
On a link bracelet we remove the required number of links, and it is worth keeping the rest in case your wrist size changes later. Leave it a little loose: in the heat the wrist swells, and a metal strap that is too tight presses. A good test is whether your little finger just fits under the strap, which keeps it comfortable all day.
Which colour suits your watch?
Match the colour of the strap to the colour of the case, not the dial: silver to a silver case, gold to gold and rose gold to a rose gold case. The range also includes the brand's own black, rose gold and gold stainless steel bracelets for Cluse watches; Cluse straps are designed to be swappable, so you can change them at home.
Looking for leather, silicone or fabric? Take a look at the list of straps by material. Before ordering, measure the lug width and your wrist circumference too, as it makes it easier to decide how much the strap will need to be shortened.
What people ask about metal watch straps
Can a metal watch strap be shortened?
Yes, a link bracelet is shortened by removing links, and a Milanese strap is adjusted at its clasp. Our own watch service can do the shortening too.
Can I shorten a metal watch strap at home?
It is possible with the right tools, but the pins and collars are easily damaged or lost, and scratches are common. If you have not done it before, leave it to our own watch service.
Is a metal strap right for every watch?
Not for all of them: a metal strap is heavier, so it can be too much on a light, small-case watch. The exact lug width matters, and so does whether the end piece fits the case.
Can I bathe with a watch on a metal strap?
Water does not harm a stainless steel strap, so if the watch's water resistance allows it, go ahead. After salt water, rinse it with tap water so that salt does not build up between the links.
