Leather Watch Straps – Rochet, Hirsch and Original Tissot Straps
We have a wide selection of leather watch straps, from budget-friendly everyday straps to higher-category pieces with special finishing. Most are French Rochet and Austrian Hirsch straps, alongside original Tissot replacement bands in 18 and 20 mm widths. Order online and have it delivered, and if you would rather not swap it yourself, our own watch service will help with that too.
What size leather watch strap does your watch need?
Measure the width between the two lugs of the case, in millimetres, not at the widest point of the strap. On men's watches 20 and 22 mm are the most common, on women's watches 14–18 mm. If the old strap has no marking, a ruler will do, but a caliper is more precise, because even half a millimetre matters.
Rochet or Hirsch – which leather strap to buy?
- Rochet: the French watch brand, active since 1908, is known for the Neptune, Charleston, New York and Aviator straps, mainly in black and brown. Good value for everyday wear.
- Hirsch: the Austrian strap maker founded in 1765 and based in Klagenfurt developed the seamless Rembordé leather technique in 1955. Our range includes the Osiris Nubuk, Crocograin, Duke, Toronto and Kansas models, in M and L lengths.
- Tissot: an original strap, if you want the exact factory shape and buckle back on your Tissot watch.
How to make a leather strap last
Leather does not like water and sweat. Take the watch off before washing dishes, showering or working out, and in summer it is worth keeping a second, water-resistant strap. If it does get soaked, let it dry at room temperature, not on a radiator. Croc-embossed, pressed leathers are a little more sensitive to scratches, and nubuck to stains.
You can find the other materials (metal, silicone, fabric) on the watch straps by material page. If you are unsure about colour, a simple rule helps: a brown strap suits gold or rose gold cases best, black suits silver, and the buckle colour should follow the case.
Questions about leather watch straps
What affects the price of a leather watch strap?
The quality of the leather, the finishing and the brand. Simpler Rochet straps are in the budget-friendly range, while those made with the seamless Hirsch technique and the original Tissot bands belong to the higher price category.
How do I know if I need an 18 or a 20 mm strap?
You need to measure the inner distance between the lugs of the case in millimetres. That gives you the strap width; even a 1 mm difference leaves it loose or tight, so if you are unsure, check the marking on the inside of the old strap as well.
Can I shower with a watch on a leather strap?
It is not worth it: water and soap dry the leather out and make it crack. Even if the watch is water resistant, the strap wears out faster, so for water we recommend a silicone or metal strap.
What is the difference between an M and an L leather strap?
M is the standard length for an average wrist, while L is longer and made for a larger wrist. If your current strap sits comfortably on the middle holes, M is a good choice, and if you use the outermost hole, choose L.
