Women's watches by case shape – round, rectangular and oval models

Women's watches by case shape: here you can choose between watches with round, rectangular and elliptical (oval) cases. Most of the range is round, but square and oval women's models are available from several series of several brands. As an official dealer, we ship them with the factory warranty and home delivery, and our own watch service changes straps and batteries.

Round, rectangular or elliptical: which women's watch shape suits your wrist?

  • Round women's watches: the easiest shape to wear; most of the Bering Classic and Longines Conquest women's models belong here.
  • Rectangular women's watches: a little retro with an art deco feel, and on a thin chain strap they work as jewellery too.
  • Elliptical women's watches: an elongated, oval case with a soft line; a rarer shape made by fewer brands, so if you fall for one, do not wait too long.

What to watch out for when choosing a women's watch by shape

At the same size, a square case looks bigger on the wrist than a round one, because its corners fill more of the surface. For a slim wrist, choose either a smaller round case or a narrow, upright rectangular one. Look at the lugs too: if they overhang the edge of your wrist, the watch is too big for you. Do not skip water resistance either – many women's watches are 3 or 5 atm, so if you want to swim in it, look for a 10 atm piece.

Which brands' women's watches will you find here?

Most are Bering, Casio and Tissot, but there are plenty of Longines, Cluse, Tommy Hilfiger, Fossil and Ice Watch too. The price scale runs from entry-level fashion watches to Swiss luxury models, so from a first watch of your own to a premium piece, you will find round and square watches at every level. You can see all women's watches together on the women's watches page.

If you are unsure, measure your wrist circumference with a tape measure and compare it with the case size on the product page: for a wrist under 15 cm a case of around 30 mm is a comfortable proportion, above that 32–36 mm – so even online it takes two minutes to find out which shape is yours.

Questions about women's watch case shapes

What case shape looks good on a slim wrist?

On a slim wrist, a smaller round case or a narrow, upright rectangular one looks best. A wide, square case easily looks like too much, so it is worth looking at smaller sizes.

What is an elliptical women's watch?

An elliptical watch has an oval case, that is, a stretched circle. It has a softer, more feminine line than a round one, and it is rarer than the round or square shapes.

Does a rectangular watch look bigger than a round one?

Yes, at the same size a rectangular case looks bigger, because its corners cover more surface. If you usually wear round watches, you can safely choose a size smaller in a square one.

How do I choose a case shape online?

Check the case width and the lug-to-lug length on the product page and compare them with the width of your wrist: if the lugs would overhang, choose a smaller one. In a square case, a size smaller than your usual round size is the safe choice.
