Citizen Automatic Watches – Mechanical Watches Without a Battery
We offer a wide selection of battery-free Citizen automatic watches, from the brand's entry level up to premium automatics, mostly in men's case sizes. The range includes the core Automatic models, the colourful-dial Tsuyosa, a few titanium-cased automatics and the higher-tier Series 8. As an official Citizen dealer we deliver to your door with the manufacturer warranty, and if anything ever goes wrong with the movement, our own watch service takes care of it all the way through to the brand's service centre.
How does a Citizen automatic watch work?
In an automatic movement, a rotating rotor winds the mainspring as your wrist moves, so there is no battery inside. Wear it and it runs; leave it in a drawer for two or three days and it stops, and you will need to set it again. Many people find that odd at first and then grow to love it: the watch has a life of its own.
Which Citizen automatic should you choose?
- Citizen Automatic men's: classic and the brand's entry level, ideal if you are looking for your first mechanical watch.
- Tsuyosa: integrated metal bracelet and colourful dials. This is the most popular line, and you can find details on the Citizen brand page under the Tsuyosa category.
- Automatic Titanium: a lighter case if the weight of steel bothers you.
- Series 8: the higher price tier, with a more refined case and an anti-magnetic movement.
Can you swim with a Citizen automatic?
Most Citizen automatics are rated to 5 ATM, which is fine for hand washing and rain but not for the pool. Several models are rated to 10 ATM, and there are 20 ATM diver versions too. If you want to wear it to the beach or the lake in summer, pick from the 10 ATM models. You will find the exact rating on every product page.
If you cannot decide between an automatic and an Eco-Drive: the automatic gives you the experience of mechanics, the Eco-Drive gives you carefree wear. If you wear your watch every day, an automatic is comfortable too; if you only wear it a few times a week, the Eco-Drive is more practical.
Citizen automatic watches: quick answers
Does a Citizen automatic watch need a battery?
No. A Citizen automatic is wound by the movement of your wrist and has no battery. If you do not wear it for a few days it stops, and you simply wind it with the crown and set the time.
What determines the price of a Citizen automatic?
Mostly the series and the materials. The basic Automatic is the brand's entry level, the Tsuyosa's integrated bracelet and a titanium case take you higher, and Series 8 is the upper tier thanks to its more refined case and stronger movement.
Are there women's Citizen automatic watches?
Yes, but the choice is much narrower than for men, typically the smaller-cased version of the Tsuyosa. Most Citizen automatics have men's case sizes.
What is the difference between the Citizen Automatic and the Series 8?
The Series 8 is Citizen's premium automatic line, with a more refined case, an anti-magnetic movement and a higher price. The basic Automatic models are simpler, but much more affordable.
Is there a warranty on a Citizen automatic watch?
Yes. As an official dealer we supply every Citizen automatic with the manufacturer warranty, and warranty claims are handled by our own watch service.
