Baume et Mercier Riviera – Steel Sports Watches for Men and Women

We offer a wide choice of Baume et Mercier Riviera watches, in both men's and women's models. Most of this twelve-sided-bezel series is automatic, and the majority are water resistant to 10 ATM, which means you can swim with them. As an official Baume et Mercier dealer, we deliver genuine watches to your door with the manufacturer's warranty, and our own watch service resizes the metal bracelet.

What is the history of the Baume et Mercier Riviera?

It was introduced in 1973, which is why it's often cited as one of the world's earliest steel sports watches. Today's models carry that on: a steel case, the distinctive twelve-sided bezel, and an integrated metal bracelet or rubber strap.

Which Riviera suits you?

  • Automatic men's Riviera – the largest group. Good for every day, holidays and swimming if it's the 10 ATM version.
  • Quartz Riviera – including most of the women's pieces. Accurate, lighter, and needing less attention.
  • More elegant Riviera – a few models with a more restrained dial that also goes well with a jacket.

There is a big difference between the metal bracelet and the rubber strap versions: the former is dressier, the latter lighter and sportier. It becomes a completely different watch, so it's worth looking at both in the product photos.

Is the Riviera water resistant?

Most Riviera models are 10 ATM: swimming, showering and the beach are all fine. There are also 5 ATM versions, which you should take off before getting in the water; the product page always tells you which is which. It's worth having the seals checked every year by our own watch service.

You can browse the Riviera in men's and women's versions separately among the men's and women's Baume et Mercier watches, and the other series on the Baume et Mercier brand page.

How to choose a Riviera online

Because of the integrated bracelet, the Riviera feels bolder on the wrist than the case diameter suggests. Compare the size on the product page with the watch you wear now, and if your wrist is slimmer, choose the smaller case. Our own watch service will resize the bracelet length for you.

Riviera FAQ

When was the Baume et Mercier Riviera introduced?

The Riviera appeared in 1973 and is regarded as one of the world's first steel sports watches. Today's models have kept the twelve-sided bezel.

What determines the price of a Baume et Mercier Riviera?

Primarily the movement and the size: the automatic men's models are the pricier ones, while the quartz and women's versions are more affordable. The finish of the bracelet or strap matters too.

Can you swim with the Riviera?

With the 10 ATM Riviera models, yes, and these are in the majority. It's best to take the 5 ATM versions off before swimming.

Is there a women's Baume et Mercier Riviera?

Yes, the Riviera is also made in a women's version. These come with a smaller case, mostly with a quartz movement.
