Men's Dive Watches – From the G-Shock to the Rado Captain Cook
The range of men's dive watches runs from affordable, rugged models all the way to Swiss automatics, and every one is rated at least 20 atm: G-Shock, Vostok Europe N1 and Energia, Tissot Seastar, Mido Ocean Star, Longines HydroConquest, Rado Captain Cook. As an official brand dealer we sell them with the manufacturer warranty, you order online and get them delivered to your door, and our own watch service helps with later maintenance.
Which men's dive watch in which price range?
- Entry level: Casio G-Shock and Vostok Europe. The Lithuanian Vostok Europe has been making expedition watches since 2003, with Japanese movements.
- Mid-range: Tissot T-Sport Seastar, Certina DS Action, Mido Ocean Star, Orient and Seiko.
- Upper range: Longines HydroConquest, TAG Heuer Aquaracer and Formula, Rado Captain Cook.
Longines is a Swiss brand founded in Saint-Imier in 1832 and part of the Swatch Group since 1983; the HydroConquest is its sporty line built for diving.
Rubber or steel strap on a dive watch?
If you really take it into the water, a rubber or silicone strap is more practical: it dries quickly, does not chafe, and can be stretched over a thicker sleeve. A steel bracelet, on the other hand, goes with a suit too and lasts much longer. Our usual advice is to buy it on steel and add a rubber strap later as a spare.
What should you check when buying a men's dive watch?
Check whether the crown screws down and whether the bezel really turns in one direction only. The case diameter of dive watches is often larger than average, and the Captain Cook and the HydroConquest are both bold pieces – when choosing online, look at the thickness and the lug-to-lug length on the product page too. If you do not wear it every day, an automatic can stop, in which case a quartz or solar model is more convenient. You will find other men's filters among the further men's watch categories.
Maintenance before diving
Water resistance depends on the seals, which age over the years. Before regular diving it is worth having them checked at a watch service, and always screw the crown back down before you go into the water.
Men's dive watches – common questions before you buy
What determines the price of a men's dive watch?
The brand, the movement and the materials. Casio and Vostok Europe are the affordable entry level, Tissot, Mido and Certina the mid-range, and Longines, TAG Heuer and Rado the higher end.
Why does the bezel of a dive watch turn in one direction only?
For safety: if it gets moved by accident, the diver can only end up reading less remaining time, never more. A good-quality bezel moves firmly, with a click.
Is it worth buying an automatic dive watch?
It is worth it if you wear it daily and like mechanical movements; a significant share of men's dive watches are automatic. If you only need it for holidays or weekends, a quartz or solar model is more practical.
Can I wear a dive watch with a suit?
Yes, a dive watch on a steel bracelet with an understated dial, such as a Tissot Seastar or a Longines HydroConquest, looks good with a suit too. Leave the large-cased G-Shock on a thick rubber strap for the weekend.
