Swiss or Japanese automatic watch for men?

Japanese automatics (Seiko, Orient, Citizen) offer the best value: a tough movement, often 100 m water resistance, at an accessible price. A Swiss men's automatic watch (Tissot, Mido, Longines, TAG Heuer, Baume & Mercier) goes a step further in finishing, dial refinement and brand value. Our usual advice: if this is your first automatic, start with a Seiko 5 Sports; once you know what you like, move on to a Tissot PRX or a Longines.

Dive, sport or dress watch: which suits you?

  • Dive watches: Longines HydroConquest, Mido Ocean Star, TAG Heuer Aquaracer – 20 atm or more, with a rotating bezel.
  • Sporty-elegant: Tissot PRX, Citizen Tsuyosa, Vostok Europe N1 – equally good with jeans and a blazer.
  • For a suit: Seiko Presage Cocktail, Orient Star, Baume & Mercier – slimmer profile, more refined dial.

How do you look after your automatic watch?

If you do not wear it every day, a watch winder is convenient but not essential: it is enough to wind it with the crown and set it. Do not keep it near magnetic objects (speakers, a bag's magnetic clasp). If it starts running fast or slow, our own watch service can regulate it.

What should you check when buying an automatic online?

Look at the power reserve on the product page: classic automatics run for around 40 hours, while more modern movements, such as the Powermatic 80, can last a whole weekend. Case thickness matters too, especially if you plan to wear it with a shirt – because of the rotor, automatics are usually thicker than quartz watches.

What people ask about men's automatic watches

What determines the price of a men's automatic watch?

Mostly the origin of the movement and the finishing. Japanese brands offer the more affordable entry level; among Swiss automatics, Tissot and Mido are the most accessible, while Longines and TAG Heuer are the higher end.

Which men's automatic watch is the most popular?

The Seiko 5 Sports is one of the best-known entry-level automatics; among the Swiss models, the TAG Heuer Carrera, the Longines HydroConquest and the Tissot PRX are among the most sought after.

Are there men's automatic watches on sale?

Some models are discounted from time to time, and you can see this in the price on the product page. You will also find the discounted pieces in a separate category.

Can you dive with a men's automatic watch?

Yes, with dive models rated 20 atm or more, such as the Longines HydroConquest or the Mido Ocean Star. Before diving, it is worth having the seals checked at a watch service.
