1969 was a milestone in Japan's history: Seiko introduced its first automatic chronograph, while Nissan launched the legendary Datsun 240Z sports car – two technological marvels united by the same innovative spirit. Now, more than half a century later, the two iconic brands have found each other again.
The design of the watch consciously evokes the classic design of the seventies - it is no coincidence that the lines are familiar. With a diameter of 39.5 mm and a thickness of only 12 mm, this model is the thinnest ever equipped with the caliber 6R. Its uniqueness is further enhanced by the second crown, which can be used to rotate the inner bezel under the glass. The countdown bezel, which can be operated using the crown at 4 o'clock, has a 60-minute scale - an ideal choice for timing car races, for example.
The heart of the SPB517J1 model is the newest member of the 6R caliber family, the 6R55 movement, which provides a 72-hour (three-day) power reserve, as well as a date complication, which can be found in the round date window located between 4 and 5 o'clock.
The limited edition was made in only 2,500 pieces. The Datsun logo appears on both the special gift box and the solid stainless steel back of the watch, clearly expressing the collaboration between the two legendary brands of the Japanese industry.
For sporty chronographs, perfect legibility is of the utmost importance, so the sub-dials at 6 and 9 o'clock have been given a non-reflective "Jet Black" coating - just like the black bonnet of the Datsun 240Z, which was colored dark for the same practical reason.
The black leather strap is sustainably sourced, as Seiko has been committed to recently. The Datsun logo also appears on the buckle, a reminder of our shared heritage and iconic collaboration. The model was produced in a limited edition of only 500 pieces, and its unique gift box also bears the Datsun logo.
